Without a doubt, many of us like customising their devices and this is one of the reasons why we hack our consoles. Now, Nintendo Switch customisation is becoming a thing thanks to the combined efforts of Team Qcean!
Custom Themes on the Nintendo Switch? How does this work?
Unlike what they did with the 3DS, Nintendo didn’t give the Nintendo Switch much in the area of UI customisation.
As a result, you can’t change much of the general look and feel of Qlaunch (home menu) but now, that’s changed thanks to the work of Team Qcean.
Recently, the team has been fiddling around with Qlaunch and a few days ago, they figured out how to change the home menu colours and gradient and were also able to get custom background images up and running.
As a result, they decided to share their progress and some pictures so that we could look at their work.
What’s the current state of Team Qcean’s work?
Currently, Team Qcean have been able to figure out how to get the following working:
- Custom background colours and images
- Layout editing so you can move menu items around
- Text Editing
- Cursor Editing
- Icon Editing
- Lockscreen and Settings app colour customisation
As things stand right now, some work still needs to be done as themes don’t work on SX OS, some things are buggy and there might be some legal issues as the custom themes are using Nintendo’s official theme files rather than a custom file format. That being said, a good deal of progress is being made and in the near future, making custom themes for the Switch should be something that ordinary community members could do.
