FIFA 19 confirmed for Switch, will have improved graphics

FIFA finally returned to Nintendo platforms last year with FIFA 18 on Switch. However, this year’s entry wasn’t necessarily a sure thing. But now Andrei Lazarescu, supervising producer for FIFA World Cup mode, has confirmed that FIFA 19 will in fact appear on Switch.
Like last year’s entry, FIFA 19 will be using a custom engine on Nintendo’s console. Lazarescu didn’t rule out potentially using Frostbite in the future, however.
He said:
“I’m not closing the door on that possibility. However we didn’t want to create a dumbed-down version of the Frostbite engine.”
Although FIFA 19 isn’t using Frostbite on Switch, Lazarescu has said that the game will feature improved graphics compared to last year’s release:
“The intent was never to have a one-off custom engine that were never going to touch again. It was to have that as a baseline and then build from there.”
According to Lazarescu, some of the improvements made it into the World Cup mode on Switch. The team’s use of face paint and hats in the crowd help the update “seem better than what you’ve been used in the core version”.
Thanks to Arison for the tip.

Flashback’s European release bumped back to June 19

Flashback is experiencing a slight delay in Europe. The game has been postponed to June 19, applying to both the digital version and collector’s edition. It still appears to be on track for June 7 digitally in North America (the collector’s edition is looking like a July release).
Flashback for Switch is a new version of the SNES classic. Players can choose between the original 1993 experience and Modern mode, which contains post-FX graphic filters, remastered sound and music, a new “Rewind” function that’s variable according to the level of difficulty, and tutorials.

Nintendo Switch firmware 5.1.0 is out

Nintendo updated the firmware for the Nintendo Switch, to version 5.1.0, yesterday.
The official changelog, as always, does not give much information about what has been updated: “General system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience”.
Of course, the Nvidia Tegra hack, as promised, is unpatchable without a hardware revision, meaning your Nintendo switch can still be 100% hacked after this update.
Hacker SciresM has been reporting that Atmosphere is generally still working well, despite some people’s feedback that the update might have broken some functionality such as the loader’s SD card redirection. He confirmed that feature still works, and the people reporting issues might using some specific HBL build that has the issue.

SciresM and other hackers have mentioned that this patch does not seem to update any major security components of the Nintendo Switch Then again, with the hardware fully hacked, such updates would be pretty much useless at this point.

More Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 updates and DLC planned

In a video message titled “More characters coming!” released today, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 producer Masayuki Hirano confirmed that more updates and downloadable content are planned for the 2016-launched sequel.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.
Get the video message and transcript below.
Hello, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 fans. Long time no see, this is Hirano, the producer of Xenoverse 2.
First off, I wanted to give you my biggest thanks for supporting Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2. And today, I was hoping to make an announcement to the fans out there. Some of you may remember, but when we announced this title, we promised to support the game for a year after launch. And we have been successful enough to run the game for a year and a half now, and that’s all thanks to the support from the fans.
However, since we did say “a year,” there may be some people thinking there’s no more new experiences and content coming to Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2. So that’s why I wanted to take this time out to make an announcement.
It’s not the end of Xenoverse 2 yet. And we aim to optimize the online experience for all users with free updates. We will be addressing the network connection issues you may be encountering during battle, and we also plan to make adjustments and balances to the skills / attacks, as well as the rules so that battling each other online is a more streamlined experience for everyone.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 still has much more to offer, so although Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 and Dragon Ball FighterZ are very different in genre, we would like to keep expanding both worlds, so that players can continue enjoying the game for a long period of time.
So we hope that you will continue to support and enjoy the Dragon Ball game series.
